She is just herself. She strives to always be positive.
She is Danika Scheepers
Danika has no desire to do what others are doing and although it took her years to realize, she has inner peace and she mentions that it is extremely liberating. She blames her “late blooming” on this fact. Between being the wife of a farmer, a mom of 3, a guesthouse owner and entrepreneur, there really is just no time to keep up with the latest fashion, ideas, trends AND the Jones’. Danika bakes the most beautiful cakes. She feels her cakes are very traditional, but it works for her.
Born and raised in the beautiful Gamtoos Valley, I can really not place myself anywhere else. I know I belong here, here where I was put and there is definitely a bigger picture that I am a part of. To enjoy every moment of Patensie, with its beautiful surrounds and people. I thank God that I am able to fulfill my passion right here.
My mom always said “no child of mine is getting married at 25“, and I thought she was being rather unreasonable. Now, I am the unreasonable one thinking that 30 is too early.
I bake for special occasions and it is a lovely challenge. Everyone is looking for something different. It is an art, a passion and something I draw a lot of joy from. Because, who can eat a dry cake bought from a shop? If I have a bad day, I switch on my oven. On a good day too! The biggest challenge is to copy those perfect “Pinterest” cakes. Clients sometimes forget that some of those cakes were digitally edited, styled and baked by professional bakers that’s been doing it for years.
Danika feels that being a woman in today’s society is a challenge. But that she wants to draw attention to one aspect – a positive attitude.
How do I stay positive in such a negative world? I ignore news, newspapers and negative people as far as I can. I train and try to focus on my own dreams and family more and less on other people and things. I have joined the “5am club”. I train early morning where I find my peace and calm, and by 8am most of my baking is done.
The service I provide is getting such a positive feedback. I have also realized that I deal with so much positivity around me. A delicious cake, a great race and a comfortable and beautiful guesthouse. I am in an industry where most people are thankful and always give uplifting and complimenting inputs. Criticism will always be there, but it will not break me. It rather inspires and drive me to give even more attention to something the next time to make sure it is a 100%.
Danika looks up to anyone that can rise above difficult circumstances, a sickness or a shortcoming to make a success of a dream and a passion. She had to teach herself to always see the bigger picture and purpose of something despite a crisis and shortfalls.
Apart from all the baking, Danika is also part of the duo that owns the Tweewater Guest Farm. For years it was her mother in law, Kenau’s dream and together they are living it. Danika is in charge of the bookings and admin and appreciates her mom in law’s touches in the guesthouse and especially the beautiful garden. Danika enjoys this venture as it is such a nice way to get involved with the town and tourism.

Danika doesn’t have a plan B, only a few different ways to make plan A work. She lives by the words of Barbara Corcoran: “You can’t fake passion”…
My time management sucks big time. Really. I have tried planning things differently, to be more relaxed but at the end of the day, I am back to working against the clock. That is how I operate and it works for me. Find your own momentum and do what works for YOU.
So – I am embracing this chaos in my life. My kids are getting bigger and in a very short time I am going to miss this time with them. I think they can learn this from me at the moment. To do as much as possible in the shortest amount of time … (if I HAVE to look at this from a positive side)
At the age of 36, I have started doing Biolink and it’s working like a bomb. I definitely focus a whole lot better.
Putting your mind to something and executing, is something I personally took as a lesson from Danika. Not only did she decide to enter the Ironman 2017 triathlon, she also finished it!
At school, I was always the Dolly Parton. The one that definitely couldn’t run. My build didn’t really allow for running. But something I could start doing later in my life as result of better eating habits, a healthier lifestyle and more training.
That is why I am so proud to have entered and completed the Ironman race earlier this year. It taught me so much about myself. My determination and commitment was tested on all levels and again I realized that I will never be able to do something halfheartedly. My head and my heart needs to be in it.
Danika sees herself as bit of a Jack of all trades, Master of none… Although I personally disagree with that statement. She is such an inspiration, not only to me, but to others as well.
His Grace covers me. This is all I know.
All I need …
